“You can do anything you set your mind to.” – Mom’s & Dad’s everywhere

The Sky Was The Limit

When we were kids, we had no problem thinking big.

“I’m going to be an astronaut!”

“I’m going to be President!”

“I’m going to play major league baseball!”

We Quit Believing

What happened?

Somewhere along the way, we quit believing in ourselves. We listened to the voices around us that said:

“That won’t work!”

“You’re crazy if you think you’re going to do that!”

“Start being sensible.”

And we fell into conformity. The flame slowly died out.

Believe Again and Start Thinking Bigger

The classic book “The Magic of Thinking Big” by David J. Schwartz lays out a framework to start thinking big.

  1. Believe you can succeed and you will.

Believing you can generates the power, skill, and energy needed to do. When you believe you can do it, the how to do it develops.

  2. Get rid of excuses.

An excuse is your current self negotiating in bad faith with your future self. Excuses short circuit your learning. If you don’t take ownership of your failures you can’t learn from them.

  3. Conquer fear by taking action.

Action cures fear. Determine what you’re afraid of and then take action. There’s some kind of action for every kind of fear.

  4. Believe in your ability to figure things out.

Thinking bigger requires that you think and dream creatively. That means thinking of new and improved ways to do something. Think outside the box of what is normal.

This Isn’t New To You

Think back to a time in your life when you thought bigger and by doing so you accomplished something your small thinking self would have never attempted.

Start thinking big again!
