Musings on Life, Performance and Software Company Ownership

Love Your Life.    Live Your Best.

Do This 1 Thing in the Mornings to Change Your Day

I haven't been a morning person most of my life.  But that has changed in the last couple of years. I find myself waking up earlier and earlier in the mornings. Some mornings it's 6am and other mornings it's 4am. I'm really loving my mornings. I like to start off slow by getting a cup of coffee and sitting by the fire catching up on tweets or blog posts. I'm also reading a couple books right now so sometimes I switch to those.  At some point in my morning I start planning my day and start thinking of all that I [...]

Where Focus Goes Energy Flows

How many of you have ever been mountain biking? Great! You understand what I'm saying about focus. When you're going down the trail you can't focus on every rock, tree stump or turn, can you? If you do, what happens? If you are watching every bump and log that's in front of you you're more than likely going to hit it.      I can vouch for that. I had been riding a road bike for a few years when I decided to take up mountain biking. I didn't have all the fundamentals down and I hopped on my bike [...]

Think You Can? You’re Right! Overcoming Limiting Beliefs

What I want to discuss in the next several minutes is how our mindset affects everything we do and how, by changing our mindset with a few shifts in thinking, we can have more success, better relationships and better finances. You with me?    How much does mindset matter?   The great american entrepreneur, Henry Ford, has been quoted as saying: If you think you can or you think you can't, you're right. Turns Out Mom Was Right In the last post I talked about how the words we use when talking to ourselves, our inner dialog, affects our lives in [...]

What Should I Have Done?

In the fall of 2015, my wife Towona and I went to Sedona for the week.  We had gone the year before and loved it so we decided to go again to unwind and relax.        One of my favorite ways to relax is on a bicycle. I love the freedom that cycling gives you. It's just you, the machine and the environment. There's nothing like getting on a road bike and taking off and riding 30, 50 or 70 miles. Road biking is about endurance and going places.   I love it when we head out from [...]

Yep, that's a needed skill, but still not the most important one.The most needed skill for a small business owner is the ability to make decisions. Why the Decision Making Skill is the Most ImportantParalysis. A Software Company of One

In his book, "The Business of Software", Eric Sink talks about small ISVs, which are small independent software vendors who dream up a software product and then build it with the intent to market and sell it. He defines "small" as a company with fewer than 50 employees. There are a ton of small independent software vendor companies out there, but the fact of the matter is that most of them didn't start out in the "small" category. I'm willing to bet that most small software companies start out as what he coined in his writings as a "Micro-ISV". A Micro-ISV [...]
