It is day four of the 12 days of coaching. And today we’re going to talk about influence.
I am Phil Sherwood, your high performance coach.
We’re gonna talk about influence today because when we think about going into this next year, and being able to think bigger and bolder and accomplish the goals that we want to get done this next year, you can’t do it on your own.
If you look at the world’s highest performers, they are not loners, they have teams around them, that can help them accomplish the big things, the bold things that they want to get done.
So how do you raise your level of influence?
Sometimes we think people were just born with natural influence, sometimes it seems that way. But if you look at what they are doing, they’re all pretty much doing the same thing that increases their level of influence, the first thing they do is they teach people how to think they shape the way that people think about themselves, about others and the world and they help them to think critically at a higher level.
It’s not just telling people what to do, but it’s teaching them how to think it’s having those conversations.
The next thing they do is they challenge us on our crap, they call us out when we need to be called out.
Having a higher level of influence, especially if you’re going to be able to challenge people, and challenging in love, of course, but you’re gonna have to have some courage because it takes courage to speak the hard truth sometimes in to call people out to a higher level of thinking and a higher level of character, a higher level of action.
So first, they teach people how to think they shape their thinking, second, they are able to challenge him and call him out on their stuff.
The third thing they do if you think of anybody that has been a great influence in your life, you would probably describe it the way they did it was by being a role model. So being able to raise your level of influence is about being a role model for other people living in integrity and character, and living your life in such a way that other people want to live that same type of life, that same integrity.
So how are you going to raise your level of influence this next year? One of the first things you can do, and one reason we don’t have influence a lot of times is because we don’t ask. We don’t ask other people for help.
So the question I want to leave you with, if you think of a big goal, or a a big project that you really want to tackle this next year, think of this question, who can help? Who can I ask to help who has the skills that I don’t have that may be able to come and help me? And then go ask raise your level of influence by having great conversations with people and being curious about people.
And so day four, it’s all about influence, how are you going to raise your level of influence this next year, so that you can achieve what you want to achieve and go to the next level?
