“The best time to have the map is before you enter the woods.” – Brendon Burchard
Having clarity is seriously underrated.
So many people walk through life alive but not fully living. I used to be one of those people. I tell people I was living my life by default rather than by design.
That’s what clarity gives you. You can design the life you want but not until you’re clear on what it is you do want and what you don’t want.
What is Clarity?
Clarity is knowing:
- Who you are
- What you want
- How to get it
- What you find meaningful and fulfilling
Who Are You?
Describe what the best version of you looks like. Who do you want to be? How do you want to show up? The easiest way to do this is to pick 3 words that describe your best self. Then start living into those 3 words every day.
My current 3 words are: Bold, Curious, and Present
What Do You Want?
Are you clear on what you want your life to look like? Where will you be in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years? Have you written them down? Who are you with? Where do you live? What type of work do you do? What hobbies do you have?
Get clear on where you’re going.
How Will You Get It?
What skills do you need to start mastering to get you to the vision you’ve pictured? What are the steps to reach your vision? Start breaking things down into micro-goals that you can track at least on a weekly basis.
What Do You Find Meaningful and Fulfilling?
You can’t control everything that happens but you can control the meaning that you give it and how it makes you feel.
Once you realize this it is hard to play the victim. You become aware that you are in control of your life.
Next Steps
The easiest way to start with clarity is to start each day by taking a few minutes answering these questions:
- How am I going to show up today?
- What feelings do I want to generate?
- What one thing do can I do today to move me closer to my vision?
